Dominion Summary (9/10)

Dominion by Tom Holland is the story of Christianity’s influence on the world. The Romans thought that being crucified was the worst possible fate and that it should only be dished out to slaves. How incredible that people could have come to believe that one particular crucifixion victim—an unassuming provincial by the name of Jesus—should have been revered as a god. Dominion examines how this stunning conviction has affected society throughout history. The West is still completely dominated by Christian presumptions today. Our morality and ethics are not universal, as Tom Holland shows, but rather are the byproducts of a very particular civilization. Secularism, liberalism, science, and homosexuality all have their roots in Christian doctrine.
